Innovation & Sustainability Compliance across the US and the EU

Workshop

Packaging is where compliance is getting most complicated and fastest. In the US, seven states- California, Colorado, Maine, Maryland, Minnesota, Oregon, and Washington- now have extended producer responsibility laws for packaging, with fees, registration, and reporting obligations rolling out through 2026 and 2027. There is no single federal standard, so brands face a real patchwork, one that is especially tricky for beauty, where small-format, multi-material packaging like pumps, caps, mirrors and magnets doesn't fit neatly into fee structures built for simpler materials. The EU is moving in parallel through the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation, rolling out harmonized rules across member states, with registration and reporting formats due by February 2026 and labeling and recyclability requirements following in August, alongside expanding fragrance allergen and PFAS restrictions already reshaping formulation. Compliance can no longer sit at the end of the process. It has to be built into packaging and product design decisions from day one. Bringing together a trends and sustainable innovation lens with hands-on regulatory expertise, this workshop is a working session, not a keynote: the room shapes the conversation as much as the facilitators do.
